Mutual Arising is a registered Community Interest Company ( CIC ), number 5755632.
We live in a time where escalating global issues and social disintegration
in local society are becoming of critical concern to us all. We believe these
issues are a direct result of the current economic model in which we live.
Mutual Arising seeks to co-ordinate cultural projects, engaging young people
and involving a variety of art forms, that will introduce new models for integrating
community in terms of mutual economic activity and mutual policy decision making
and implementation.
Our research, gathered over the past two years, has shown an overwhelming need
to begin the process of building bridges between various organisations, institutions,
individuals and public / private sector groups, to establish trusting and transparent
relationships and pave the way for change to happen in a gradual and organic
fashion.
Mutual Arising is managed by, and engages with, professional artists who identified
their commitment to careers in the cultural industries in the early stages of
their adult life. By the same token, our proposed projects will assist and mentor
young people in uncovering or developing creative arts, media and project management
skills, and identifying the local agencies that can support their continued
training and career development.
The integrated approach we propose will work from a premise that art is an expression
of society. All creative activity will be initiated within a process of consultation
that addresses the practical, environmental and economic benefits to the local
community. Young people will acquire leadership skills as they implement the
work, articulate community needs, document and publicise the activity and seek
to broaden participation in our projects.
FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions) : answers sourced from HM Government
CIC website:
What is a Community Interest Company (CIC)?
"The Community Interest Company structure is meeting the needs of new entrepreneurs looking to use their business for social good." ( The Rt. Hon Alun Michael MP, Minister of State for Industry and the Regions )
"These companies have been established to provide real benefits to their local communities."
( John Hanlon, Regulator of community interest companies )
What does a Community Interest Company Do?
"I believe the scope for CICs is limited only by people's imaginations and their strong desire to help the communities they live in. It is good to hear about the various ways in which individuals, working together, are striving to make a positive difference in their communities."
( John Hanlon, Regulator of community interest companies )
Is a Community Interest Company a Charity?
"Community interest companies are motivated by a desire to create social good. They do not wish, and would not be eligible, to become charities.
There are already many people involved in community enterprise the length and breadth of the country, and this new legal form, the CIC, will help these groups of people, and new organisations and individuals entering the field, to easily and simply set-up to trade for the public good.
There is also an opportunity for much larger concerns to be created, winning contracts, and trading for profit, but with this profit going directly to communities."
( John Hanlon, Regulator of community interest companies )
What is the legal requirements for profits made by a Community Interest Company?
"CICs give an opportunity to people in the community to trade for the community's benefit. The asset lock gives public reassurance that all money generated, or donated will be used for community benefit, and the reporting requirements will show the public at large just what has been achieved by the money generated during the year."
( John Hanlon, Regulator of community interest companies )

Lets show The World that we already are The Capital Of Culture!
A lasting visual document of the region and its 'living culture' in the early years of the 21st Century. The feature to be made is a non-verbal production with an original music soundtrack (see Music Inclusion). The recording of contemporary images of the region from a highly aesthetic viewpoint. Incorporating unusual and original perspectives of the dynamic spaces found in the area, and having regard to its history, architecture, institutions, culture and people.
Music performance by Liverpool based musicians and artists will feature strongly in this movie. It will be of a Liverpool that we have yet to see represented on film, its people and places, textures, corners and crannies. The full production schedule will be sourced from many hours of location footage collected during the past 2 and a half years and continuing during 2007. With the help of our promotion partners, we will launch a programme called ' Community Inclusion ' enabling residents to suggest further locations for filming.
We have listed below some of the areas covered by the production so far:
In 2007 Liverpool celebrates 800 years of history as a city, however there are many other historical sites within the city that span several thousand years, such as the remains of a Megolithic Tomb - 'The Calderstones' (currently housed in a protective greenhouse at Calderstones Park).
The city contains many historical buildings, such as St. Georges Hall (The finest neo-classical building in Europe), Speke Hall, The Three Graces (Port of Liverpool Building, Cunard Building, Liver Building), The Historic Docks, and is home to the largest collection of museums and art galleries outside of London.
For these, and many other reasons, the city was recently acknowledged by its designation as a 'World Heritage City' by UNESCO.

Liverpool has one of the oldest Chinese communities in Europe, a wealth of African and Arabic cultures and is Internationally recognised as home to many World Famous establishments in Sporting Traditions (Liverpool and Everton Football Clubs), Horse Racing (The Grand National), and many Golf Courses of International acclaim (The Liverpool Open).
We have a significant culture of faith and traditions - two Cathedral's (Liverpool 'Anglican' Cathedral and Liverpool 'Metropolitan' Cathedral) situated on either end of Hope Street. One of the earliest Greek Orthodox churches and many other places of worship in the Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu and Bahai faiths to name but a few.
The city has a history of welcoming people from many historical diasporas, most famously the Irish immigrations in the 1840's. Liverpool is very much seen as a Celtic City with many of its residents having Irish, Welsh, Scottish and Manx roots.
Capturing the 'spirit of place' and the 'living culture' of Liverpool forms the basis for our 'Community Inclusion' scheme.

Liverpool is 'The Most Productive Music City in The World' with many local acts reaching an International audience. The most famous of all, 'The Beatles' have left a lasting legacy with Liverpool Airport being renamed 'Liverpool John Lennon Airport', and Sir Paul McCartney's visionary 'Fame school' - LIPA' (Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts).
Apart from the many 'Pop Music' acts, Atomic Kitten, Space, etc. there is currently a wealth of performers who regularly perform original live music across the region covering many musical styles. In recent years, progressive individuals are embracing musical influences from the many and varied cultures who have made Liverpool their home (including asylum seekers) and in collaborative projects are creating new and exciting 'Fussion' grooves for the 21st Century.
Filming these individuals and groups for inclusion is the core of our ' Liverpool Live ' project. Capturing micro- performances of any individual who would like to express their musicality is the basis for 'Music Inclusion'.

Its Your Culture - Play Your Part.
The film element of Mutual Arising will feature many of the acts who currently perform live music in the city. Whenever we film a performance we will subsequently edit a small 'quicktime' video which will be made available to view online. This is 'Liverpool Live'.
Members of the public will be able to view a list of acts who are performing in the region and which venues are supporting live music. This will help raise awareness of the many regular music nights and will contribute to the establishment of new.
To 'Play Your Part' in 'Liverpool Live' please contact us on the following email address stating if you are a performer(s) or a venue. Please include dates of forthcoming performance(s), full address of location and a contact name, email and telephone number. liverpoollive@mutualarising.com
Mutual Arising is a registered Community Interest Company (CIC) Limited by Guarantee, No: 5755632
'Community Interest Companies (CICS) are limited companies with special additional features created for the use of people who want to conduct a business or other activity for community benefit, and not purely for private advantage. This is achieved by a "community interest test" and "asset lock", which ensure that the CIC is established for community purposes and the assets and profits are dedicated to these purposes.Registration of a company as a CIC has to be approved by the Regulator who also has a continuing monitoring and enforcement role.'
